“Humanistic identification” is suggested as a better translation of Adler’s Gemeinschaftsgefuhl that social interest in that it affords a wider reference than “social” and avoids the connotations of conformity and gregariousness, and is not restricted to the mild, volitional, intellectual character of “interest.”
